Hi! My name is Katie, I am one of the Antonia Christianson Events interns. We feel like our studio is a magical place with lots of aha! moments. Here at Antonia Christianson Events, we see our staff as fairies (making everything behind the scenes happen) and our clients as Kings and Queens. Below are pictures of our studio to give our clients and readers a glimpse of where the magic happens. With lots of hard work and a little bit of fairy dust, we strive to make our client's dreams come true and celebrate them living happily ever after. What an amazing year for weddings! 2011 was definitely a year of gorgeous events full of fun clients and of course lots of LOVE! Every year for the last several years we have posted a "Thankful" post on Thanksgiving Day....and this year, more than ever I felt the urge to continue the tradition. 2011 has been an extremely emotional and trying year personally for me. I have been dealt a deck of cards that I never would have expected, at a time when I least expected it. With the help of amazing friends and event vendors I have gotten through by taking things one day at a time. I truly feel that I have grown stronger.

On a personal level I am thankful for the support of my husband, boys and extended family. I am thankful for the current health of my mom who was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma in May. We are fighting daily to make her life as stress free and comfortable as possible. I am thankful that my boys are creating memories with her that they will hopefully remember long after she has left us. While we all know the outcome, I am thankful to have this time with my mom and family. Each day is more enjoyable than the last and for that I am thankful.

I am thankful for Wyatt and Sophie. Children that left our world too early, but reminded me what is most important in life. Wyatt is the son of my college roommate and sorority sister, Ashley. He was taken from us at only a few weeks old the night before my mom was diagnosed. To say that the week of May 10 was the hardest in my life would be an understatement. Sophie is the daughter of one of my employees, dear friends, and clients, Rachel. She was a gorgeous baby that passed away the week of her parents first wedding anniversary. Through her and her parents ministry an entire community was brought together. These sweet babies taught me more in their short lives than most people learn in a lifetime. I am thankful for their strength and dignity.

I am thankful for business! 2011 was another amazing year at Antonia Christianson Events. My clients truly kept me sane through the year and without each of them i'm not sure that i'd be writing this post today. I am thankful to every vendor that we have the opportunity to work with...but I am most thankful for those that turned from "colleague to friend" this year. I have friends in this industry that literally dropped everything to support my staff and I when I needed them most. And for that I am thankful.

Finally, I am thankful for my amazing staff that has stuck with me through the years. Each year we grow and learn together. Ladies, Thank you for helping our clients feel like the only brides in the world...just as they should.

I am thankful and eternally grateful.

Real Wedding: Tori and Ryan

Early this year the ACE Team had the honor of planning the wedding of Tori and Ryan. You might remember them from their engagement session featured on the Wedding Chicks Blog or from a recent article in VOW magazine...but we haven't had the chance to properly write up details about this fun couple.

Tori came to us through one of our employees and a mutual sorority sister and we knew immediately she was a great fit for us! I loved planning with Tori and Ryan because their main focus was on each other and on making sure their guests had fun. Yes, we got to create beautiful tablescapes and help them pick out every detail of their big day...but that wasn't the main focus (which was a breathe of fresh air). Tori and Ryan had not been to a million weddings so they didn't have a large list of items that we could not incorporate into their big day. So often, our clients come with a laundry list of details that they have seen at friends weddings and they want to make sure that nothing is repeated. (another breathe of fresh air for us). Their vision for a blue and yellow wedding was perfect for their May nuptials.

Here are a few of our favorite things:
1. The bridesmaids wore blue knee length dresses with yellow Chuck Taylor sneakers.
2. Tori took some of her wedding pictures in a yellow cardigan, to match her yellow shoes.
3. Ryan's face when he saw his wedding present from Tori was PRICELESS. A moment we will never forget.
4. Their cake! I actually saw an inspiration picture of a similar cake online from a planner that I follow on the West Coast...and I knew it was the perfect fit for this fun couple.
5. HOMEMADE touches were the key to this wedding and the guests noticed the amount of work and heart that Tori put into the reception.

An Engagement Story: JD and Stacy

It's engagement picture time in the Antonia Christianson Events studio...we are literally getting images of our great couples from amazing local photographers a few times a week. I am like a kid in a candy store opening up all these great emails and sharing the images (and our clients) with each of you. Today i'd like to introduce you to JD and Stacy a fun Virginia couple that now reside in Florida. This adorable couple have known each other practically all of their life but did not start dating until 2008. In 2009 JD proposed to Stacy on a cruise to the Bahamas surrounded by a few dear friends and the rest is history...

The Antonia Christianson Events staff is honored to help guide Stacy and JD through the planning process of their June 2012 nuptials.

Meghan and Mark: An Engagement Story

After a bit of a blogging hiatus the ACE team is back to sharing another amazing love story. We'd like to introduce you to our clients and Meghan and Mark. This couples love story is something special and I'm honored that I have the pleasure of sharing it with you. This year marks TEN years, the couple have been together, and I’m not talking on and off… but uninterrupted love for a decade.

The story of Meghan and Mark begins the summer Meghan turned 16 and began babysitting for her nephew, while her sister was a teaching summer school. Many times she would end up staying with her sister rather than driving home and one afternoon Meghan decided to go on a bike around the neighborhood. It was during this bike ride that Meghan met Mark. After spending much of the following week together Mark invited Meghan on their first date to Joe's Crab Shack. The rest, as we say, is history...

They dated all throughout High School and attended College together, soon to become engaged on Oct.6^th 2010 during their trip to Hawaii. Mark proposed at the top of Diamond Head in Waikiki (making that day the happiest day of Meghan’s life). What a perfect way for two beach lovers to decide to spend the rest of their life together. So Perfect!

Emily and Zach: An Engagement Story

I have been holding this engagement story and session for quite some time now...and I am finally excited to share these fun pictures and love story with you.

Emily and Zach were introduced by a sorority sister, Casey, in May of 2010 (both of which happen to be sisters of mine!). Zach had been invited to a wedding of two law school classmates in Texas last August and needed a date. Casey introduced the two via facebook and after a month of texting, emailing and playing hard to get (on Emily's behalf) the two decided to meet...and well, the pictures below show the rest!

Zach and Emily decided to take their engagement pictures somewhere that had a little southern flair and alot of class (both literally and figuratively), just like their upcoming nuptials in January. They decided to take their pictures at Wake Forest (where Zach attended Law School) to include the classic and southern vibe they were looking for. The library ended up being the perfect location. What do you think?

On a side note: We love Emily and Zach's photographer! Kristin Byrum shot another sorority sister of Emily's a while back and Emily fell in love (we can see why!) I know the ACE Team is excited to get to know this North Carolina based photographer.

Monday Meeting: Jarnett Photography

We have taken a few weeks break from our Monday Meetings and wanted to come back with a BANG! Today I am going to introduce you to Ashley and Jen, the masterminds behind Jarnett Photography. I wanted to give you a little back story into my history with these ladies (Ashley in particular) in hopes it gives you some more insight into why I love these girls personally and professionally. Prior to planning fabulous events full time for Antonia Christianson Events I had a corporate job in marketing for a regional wireless phone provider where I planned and implemented corporate events, merchandised a region worth of retail stores (21 to be exact) and worked on media and sponsorships to help secure the name of this provider in Hampton Roads and throughout this region (including 5 states). Actually, not much different from what I do now...anyways, I love Ashley Barnett because when I left corporate america Ashley filled my shoes. She rocked the position obviously and we got to know each other through other ventures we do with Komen for the Cure (a non profit we both know and love). Soon after Ashley took over for me I heard she was a photographer: NO really, a good one. And I have to say, I was impressed from day one with what I saw. Now, since then (it's been a few years) her passion, her style and her drive have changed/grown and become more obvious to the wedding world. She has left corporate america and together with her business partner Jen they are rocking their brand one wedding at a time. Below is a question and answer with these two awesome ladies and of course, a few of their favorite images. As always! Let us know what you think.

How did you get your start in photography?

I (Ashley) got my start in photography taking film classes in high school and fell in love with black and white images. I always swore up and down I would NEVER want to photograph weddings, but when my god-sister asked me to photograph her wedding in 2007, I realized how much I actually loved being a part of someone’s wedding day… the happiness of a wedding day is infectious and not many people get to say their day job is the happiest day of people’s lives!! From there it began and has continued to be solely word of mouth referrals from past clients which we love!

Jen began taking an interest in photography through her connection to the automotive industry, and began learning photography techniques by practicing on friend’s cars and her own. She went to a friend’s wedding one day and was completely fascinated by the photographers and began thinking she might want to transition into weddings. It wasn’t long after that she asked Ashley if she could second shoot at one of her first weddings and the rest is history! We realized how perfectly we worked together right from the start and Jarnett Photography was born!

What is your favorite moment to capture at a wedding?

Our favorite moment to capture at a wedding… okay we are cheating and saying two! : ) One, if our couples choose to do a First Look (where the bride and groom see each other before the ceremony), it is by far our favorite part of the day. The emotion and excitement of the day are just spilling over at that point and we love seeing the look on the groom’s face when he sees his beautiful bride for the first time. Our second favorite moment is one that isn’t necessarily categorized: it’s the small, in between moments of the day where we catch the bride and groom smiling each other, or reaching for each other’s hands. We love when we hear from couples “I didn’t even know you TOOK that!”

How would you classify your style of photography?

Our style of photography is inspired, modern, fresh and timeless. We want our clients to be able to look at their images in 15 years and still love them as much as they do today. However, we recognize and understand that our clients have put a lot of thought and detail into making their wedding unique and fun and we want to make sure their images reflect who they are as individuals as well as a couple!

What words of advice do you have for couples seeking the right wedding photographer?

The biggest piece of advice we can give couples looking for their wedding photographer is take the time to meet with them before booking and make sure you not only like their style of photography but them as people as well! Your photographers will be with you non-stop on your wedding day, and knowing you can joke, laugh and 100% trust your photographers will make your entire day feel less stressed, and of course make for better photos! This is why we blog a lot of personal stories as well as our photos- we want clients to come to our blog and site and feel like they know us before they even contact us! It truly helps them decide right off the bat if we are a good match for them and their wedding!

Sneak Peak: A Cape Charles Wedding

In Mid-July we had the honor of coordinating a wedding the ACE Team had been planning for the last several months in Cape Charles, VA. I always love to be on the Eastern Shore at Bay Creek, it's such a nice feeling to be "away from it all" and in reality only be 30 minutes from our home base. I don't want to share too much about Tricia and Vince's big day...until I have more detailed images to share, but I of course got a little giddy when I saw these images from Trivium Studio. I will however share this sneak peak explanation of their love story: Tricia and Vince met in Mexico while vacationing a few years back. Tricia is a gourmet ice cream sandwich maker based in DC (they are ridiculous amazing sandwiches too!) and Vince is a roofing contractor based in Sunny Southern California. They have lived across the country from each other for 2 years and have never gone more than 3 weeks without seeing each other. It truly is a blessed loved story. James and I had the extreme pleasure of shooting their engagement shoot while in LA this past summer and are so grateful that Vince brought the amazing weather from the west coast to Cape Charles for their big day. They got married in the church Tricia grew up in and had their reception on the water outside of Aqua Restaurant. I hate to put a "favorite" label on any one event because I have very distinct and fun memories from each client's wedding...but these 2 images below might be some of my favorite I've seen in a long time. (i love them so much I ordered 2 humongous canvases for my studio walls). I hope you like them as much as I do:

Trust your Vendors: A guide to loving your wedding vendors

I often write posts for this fabulous blog based on questions, comments, concerns, input, etc. of former clients, current clients, friends and vendors and today is no different. I have enjoyed being in the amazing world of events for 12 years now and have owned Antonia Christianson Events for nearly 5 years (can you believe it?). I tell you this so that you, as a reader, understand that there are years of stories to back up the remainder of this post. Today, I'm going to write about trusting your vendors, proper vendor/client etiquette and a bit of random banter that pops into my head.

I think the easiest way to give pointers to our readers is to just bullet a few topics. Below are 5 tips to help ensure that you have the wedding day you have always envisioned:

1. Have a mutual rapport with your potential vendor before you sign a contract. Make sure that you feel you will trust them and will have an enjoyable working relationship because it doesn't matter how amazing you think a vendors work is if the rapport is not up to par. If there is tension between you and your booked vendor it will absolutely show in their work. You want them to create beautiful flowers for you out of love, or to take amazing pictures because they love working with you and want to see you happy. If there is animosity in the client/vendor relationship then the best foot might not be put forward on behalf of either party.

2. Trust your vendors. Understand that a respectable vendor is going to give honest feedback and will use their years of experience to give you the best service possible. If a makeup artist that has been in the wedding world for 20+ years tells you down to the minute the amount of time they need to service you and your bridal party...trust them. If you have valid questions by all means ask, but don't create your own schedule based on the amount of time you believe they need.

3. Respectable vendors recommend vendors to you based on their experience. This is a topic that always gets me. Personally, as a vendor I only recommend other vendors that I have had an amazing experience with and those that I would trust with my own event. (this doesn't mean we don't work with new vendors, it just means we can only educate our clients off of the feedback we receive from other vendors in the industry) While I can't speak for all planners or vendors I don't recommend other vendors based on some sort of kickback I might receive as a gift for a recommendation. With that said...We have to share the bad as well. If a former client is suing their photographer because they haven't received their wedding pictures over a year after their big day, we are going to tell you. This isn't to ruin your hopes and dreams for a wedding photographer, it's to save you the upset after the wedding.

4. Communication is key! Here is the fine line, it's important that all vendors treat you with respect and respond to you in a quick response time...but it is also important that clients understand that a Friday or Saturday email to a wedding vendor might not be responded to until the Monday or Tuesday after a wedding weekend. This isn't because your wedding vendor is ignoring you, it's because they are taking care of another client on their wedding weekend the way that you would want to be taken care of on yours.

5. Social Networking is not the way to communicate with your wedding vendors. Yes, Social Networking (Facebook, google+, twitter) are all great ways to see what is happening with your photographer, florist, videographer, etc. it is not the place to contact them about pricing, a product you'd like to receive or anything of importance. Social networking is a great tool, but all important communication about your event should be left to a phone call or an email to their proper email address. Many vendors don't even personally update their social networking: they have staff, interns, marketing associates, etc that create these posts and keep up with the items that take up a lot of time but don't necessarily need to be done by the owner...with this said, if you'd like a response in a respectable amount of time and by the person that you intend it to go to, please call or email your vendors directly.

I hope these 5 tips find you well and help create a proactive and well-received relationship between you and your wedding vendors. All of the items we touched on are topics of recent feedback from clients and vendor friends, so we thought it was a great topic to write about.

Real Wedding: Kristen & Bryan's

In December 2011 we had the honor of planning and designing a beautiful "Winter Witt Wedding" for Kristen and Bryan. Kristen happened to be dear friends to one of my best friends from college so I was truly honored to get the call that they were looking for a planner for their upcoming nuptials. Kristen and Bryan were married on 12-11-10 at the Marriot Newport News at City Center. Kristen had a great vision for her big day and no detail was left unturned. RSVP Stationery created custom designed stationery for their special day that added just the right amount of detail. Her stationery, to say the least, was amazing! The ceremony and reception flowers were created by a friend of the grooms mother...Karen Mulkey, owner of Rooms, Blooms and More. The flowers added just the right amount of elegance and personality to both the ceremony and reception. Trivium Studio captured all of the romance and fun (have you checked out their photobooth?) as DJ Rodney Charles kept the party going late into the night. The whimsical fondant layers of the cake by Patti Cakes had many of the guests in awe (and of course, it tasted as good as it looked).

The ceremony was held in the hotels elegant rotunda. The stage was set by the beautifully lit waterfall glass panels. Kristen beamed as she cascaded the grand staircase from the back of the rotunda with her father by her side (a moment we had envisioned many times before the big day).

The winter ambiance in the ballroom was set perfectly by Blue Steel Pro Lighting. Pin spots showcased the centerpieces as well as the cake. Silhouettes of evergreens cornered the room creating an intimate Winter wonderland.

As always, I wanted to share a few of my favorite details and moments from their big day: Kristen and Bryan were obviously loved! Many family members and friends participated in their wedding and it was such an honor to get to know their family throughout the process. The minister is a very close family friend, he was like a big brother to the bride and it was obvious how honored he was to share in their big day. Did we mention that the bride and grooms families were best friends? Since before Kristen and Bryan were even born? It was truly the official joining of these two families into one! If I had to narrow down my favorite memory into one I think it would be Kristen doing the electric slide with only her bridesmaids just as she had always envisioned.

Real Wedding: Rachel and Nick

Rachel and Nick got married a few weeks ago at The Mariner's Museum in Newport News. They were a complete joy to work with and had such a great energy. They were college sweethearts and are both lawyers, that met in law school. They shared so much love for each other...It was an amazing day!

Isha Foss Events created a beautiful outdoor romantic design that included antique books as centerpieces, a quaint seating area near the dance floor and an adorable sign in table. Brother Lucy, the band and friends of the couple, played throughout the night as the guests danced under the stars in the courtyard of the museum.

We can't give away too many details because there are some exciting things in the works. But here is just one shot from the fabulous Womble Photography.

The up and coming wedding cinematographer Jeremy Mitchell of Jeremy Mitchell Cinema created their wedding video. I have to say, it's pretty amazing. It perfectly captures the love that they have for one another and how fun of a couple they truly are. Here is a sneak peak of their event and some of the details we loved.

AC: How did Chef by Design get it's start?

CBD: Chef by Design Catering Co. was previously the Silver Palate Catering Company. Owners, John and Marcy Telfer, started the company in 2002, and changed it's name in 2010, after letting go of their restaurant, the Silver Palate Bistro, in Virginia Beach. Our goal was to focus solely on our first love - catering!! AC: What are some ways in which you help make an event unique?

CBD: The event must truly reflect the client! It will be unique when the focus is on what the client envisions, and loves! We take the time to meet with every client, to hear what their vision is, what foods they love, what level of formality they are looking for, and so on. Our goal is to capture their ideas, and then expand upon that, to offer them creative, beautiful menus and service that they and their guests will remember! The options are endless how to create a signature event for each client - they will know that it is "their" event, unlike any other!

AC: What are some of the biggest trends for weddings that you've seen?

CBD: Well, in the area of catering, beautiful food stations with gorgeous linens and beautiful creative accents are hot trends these days. More and more, it seems the plated dinner is not as popular...our brides want the structure of plated in some ways, but the freedom of stations and displays. We often encourage the best of both worlds by offering one or two plated courses, and then opening up stations and displays. In addition, we see a lot of fun "mini" foods, especially as a late evening snack, while guests are dancing and having fun - things like mini sliders, tacos, pizza, french fries, "munchy" items are all the rage, too! Truly, it is all about the client! It all depends upon their personalities, trend or no trend!

AC: Do you have any advice for couples looking for the right caterer for their "big day?"

CBD: I believe it is so important to connect with your caterer. Couples want to make sure that they are comfortable with the caterer, and that the caterer will take the time to meet with them, have them taste their menu to make sure it is exactly what they are looking for, and to find one who can work with a reasonable budget. I encourage them to not just pick a few items off a standard menu, but instead, take the time to allow a caterer to create something truly special for them on this most important day! It is important that couples not just be budget driven, because you often get what you pay for. Chef by Design provides much more than just the food for your day. We work in very close conjunction with the event planner or coordinator, or other vendors, to make sure that the entire reception flows smoothly and is flawless. You don't want to entrust that to just anyone!! We develop a lasting relationship with our clients, as we walk them through the planning process of their reception, and it is priceless!!

Monday Meeting: Ramone Photography Studio

This week we wanted to take a look at another great photographer, Ramone! At Ramone Photography Studio, the relationship between the subject and photographer is key to capturing more than just a moment in time. He strives to show more depth through his photographs. Take a look at this great question and answer session we had with Ramone!

AC: How did you get your start in photography?
RPS: I immersed myself in photography when I was 16 & 17 years old. While in my high school photography and art program I also attended professional workshops, photography programs at museums and enrolled in college photography classes. I photographed my first wedding at age 17, as I apprenticed with the areas top wedding photographer of the day. Ramone Photography Studio opened at The Wayside Village Shops in 1994.

AC: What is your favorite moment to capture at a wedding?
RPS: There is always a time in the early part of every wedding that I fall into a zone. It's when everything seems to come together, the magic and romance comes to life. These many special moments occur throughout the day, some similar to other weddings and some unique to the wedding at hand. It's these variety of events & moments that I capture for my clients and they usually become their favorites.

AC: How would you classify your style of photography?
RPS: My career as a professional wedding photographer started just as the "formal" era transitioned to "journalistic". I was fortunate to learn early the value of both styles. I enjoy blending the casually posed formal style, the story-telling candid style with my own creativity, it's what make Ramone Photography Studio unique.

AC: What words of advice do you have for couples seeking the right wedding photographer?
RPS: Once you've done the basics and know you're dealing with a qualified professional, it is extremely important to click with the photographer's personality. There are many great photographers with hard to get along with personalities. You do not want to be annoyed or trouble your guests or your family & friends with a photographer who's hard to handle. Meet your photographer, but if it's too difficult call or have your mother or a bridesmaid pay them a visit.

Let's make it Yours: Planning for a stylized custom wedding

I often talk about creating weddings and events that are "Unique To You"...so I thought I'd give you a few pointers on how to fulfill the vision of your dream day. First, lets talk about "insert bride and groom weddings"...these are events where any bride or groom fit into the equation, while they might be beautiful they usually are not memorable to your loved ones. The ACE Team has clients with both types of events, some that are beautiful and classic with out many unique details and some that are super custom with great details. Neither style of event is wrong, it's all a matter of preference. The trend in today's weddings and events include tons of details and fun themes.

Our Tips for a Stylized Custom Wedding:

1. Plan for yourself (and your groom): Yes, you want your guests to enjoy your day, have enough to eat/drink and dance the night away...But this is also a day to celebrate your love. Whatever you envision is what you should have. Don't worry if you are making everyone happy, or if your wedding is "Traditional enough" for your grandparents. Do what makes you happy, that will make your family and friends happy in return.

2. Go Big or Go Home!: No, I don't mean spend your lives savings on your wedding, but I do mean if you come up with an idea or theme follow through completely. No one will understand your "Sweet as Honey" theme if you randomly place honey combs around the reception room and call it a day. Let your guests get a glimpse into your big day with your Save the Dates and Invitations and follow through until the last guest has left your reception. It will be memorable for you and your guests.

3. Communicate: Of course you need to communicate with all parties involved on your big day...but you really need to communicate with your vendors above all else! This doesn't mean to email, call or text multiple times a day but it does mean to be open and honest with your vision. If you love white flowers but hate roses, tell your florist. If you have always envisioned a letter press invitation, tell your stationer. If you have dreamed of amazing event lighting but don't want spinning lights above your dance floor, tell your lighting designer. You should hire all of your vendors because you trust them and love their style, so you should feel completely comfortable with them and trust that what you envision for your big day is what they are going to provide for you. There are literally hundreds of event vendors in Hampton Roads (some of the best in the nation!) but none of them are mind readers...paint a clear picture so they can create your day for you.

Below are 3 different events with 3 different themes...

The below inspiration board is from an engagement session that the ACE Team created with the help of Trivium Studio. Together with our clients we had a great idea to design their engagement session around "time"... and the quote "You are Every Minute of My Everyday". Yes, I know this isn't a wedding, but I thought it was a great example of how you can take an idea and run with it...the use of props, fun details and amazing photography really pulled this shoot together. Here is the key, if you have an idea for your event or even engagement session, go big or go home. This session would not have been a cohesive idea if we stopped at just the sign, or just a pocket watch. Ashley and John, were married in Mexico the month before their "Stateside Nuptials" so when designing their event they wanted to make sure that they included details from their tropical wedding for the guests that weren't able to travel with them. Ashley had a clear vision of what she wanted, the colors she wanted to use (Turquoise and Fuchsia) and some very distinct details. I loved a lot of the details that we ended up using! The escort cards were placed inside adorable bottles that looked like something that would have washed up on the beach. Their table linens and flowers was reminiscent of the colors and style of their bride and grooms reception in Mexico. The Organza overlays and fabric used in the lounge was airy and beautiful. We displayed pictures from their destination wedding throughout the event, in the acrylic coffee tables that Daevid provided, in vintage green glass canisters and even on a large wall of family wedding photos as well. I think my favorite peice of "Mexico" was Ashley's original wedding gown which we displayed near the ice art and bar for all to see.

The images below were shot for a well known bridal magazine "Bride and Bloom"...they gave us the color palette and we had to come up with the inspiration and the concept. It's a bit harder to come up with inspiration this way as we didn't have a client to tell us that we were going in the right direction or that they hated our ideas. I invited Daevid Reed of Daevid's Flowers to help me come up with this "secret garden" theme and I absolutely loved the final product! As you can see, everything from the antique china to the shoes matched or coordinated with our Turquoise and Emerald color scheme. A lot of what made this event work was the backdrop venue, the Hermitage Foundation Museum. (This is something that all clients should think about, does your vision match your venue?) Wedding Ettiquette: Being in the Bridal Party

At least a few times a month we are asked about what responsibilities are expected when a bride or groom asks you to be in their wedding party so today we thought we'd share our knowledge. Being asked to be in the bridal party is an absolute honor but, you must remember that this duty includes so much more than standing along side the bride and groom on their big day. In reality, being an attendant in a friends wedding means much more. In general, attendants are supposed to assist the bride and groom whenever possible in addition to paying for their attire (with the exception of flowers) as well as attend the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, and other pre-wedding events if possible. They should also give the bride and groom an individual gift or contribute to the gift given from the entire bridal party. These great tips come from Emily Post's wedding etiquette!

From our experience we've seen other, more specific duties that the Maid/Matron of Honor and Best Man are entrusted with. The Best Man and Maid/Matron of Honor are to hold the rings during the ceremony of the Bride and Groom, respectively. The Maid/Matron of Honor has the honor of assisting the Bride in choosing the Bridesmaid's attire, and in cases where there is no wedding coordinator/planner hired the Best Man is responsible for remitting the couple's payments to their vendors. Although the Best Man and the Maid/Matron of Honor are two key participants in the bridal party, the rest of the bridal party have the equally important role of ensuring that all runs smoothly on the big day. The Maid/Matron of Honor is responsible along with the bridal party to plan both the bridal shower and bachelorette parties. The Best Man and rest of the groomsmen/ushers are responsible for planning the bachelor party.

The question was raised to the ACE Team this week about weddings with only 1 attendant...and we'd say that the rules stay the same. The Bride will still be expecting a shower and most likely a bachelorette party as well....but I think the key to remember is that it is ok to ask your guests to bring a covered dish or to host an afternoon tea and desserts style shower rather than a formal luncheon or dinner shower. Most brides that we come in contact with would not want their bridal party going broke trying to plan an over the top shower, so by all means, ask friends and family for help if you know there is no other bridal party member except for the Maid/Matron of Honor and Best man.

We wanted to share our number one gripe from our clients and from friends when it comes to their bridal party...We hear at almost every wedding complaints from our clients about the unwillingness of their bridal party (men or women) to partake in activities that the bride wants for her wedding day or throughout the planning process. Remember, a wedding day should be joyous and should mark the joining of two people, their families and their friends. I often tell my clients that if they wanted me to wear a monkey suit and a tutu and dance around, I absolutely would, because it is their day, and what they envision...Just as you deserve your day and what you envision. Remember that nugget, and you will do an amazing job as a member of the bridal party.

Melanie and Austin: Virginia Engagement Session

Monday Meeting: The Boardwalk Photo Booth Company

We had the great opportunity to talk with our good friend Shawn Cox, owner of The Boardwalk Photo Booth Company, who's been involved in the wedding industry for over twenty years! Take a look at this great question and answer session we had with him and let us know what you think about the amazing pictures as well!

AC: How did you first become involved in the wedding industry?

SC: I started as a local disc jockey back in 1989. I worked in radio for Z104 & 2WD for about 12 years and was also a full-time wedding DJ and managing partner for one of the local entertainment companies. Radio was fun and a great experience, but in the end I just really enjoyed weddings. I loved meeting new people every weekend and it was extremely fulfilling to walk away from a wedding reception knowing how big a difference you made to the bride & groom on such an important day. The wedding industry has been a part of my life for over 22 years now! I actually met Carolyn at a wedding and we had our pictures taken in the photo booth on the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier on one of our first dates. Life hasn't been the same since. In December 2009, Carolyn and I were talking about the industry and realized that there wasn't a local photo booth presence, and we knew that the trend had been building in Hollywood and in cities like Chicago and New York. We shopped around for readily available "photo booths" and even looked into the franchises, but weren't impressed with anything. We wanted to create a much more authentic photo booth experience for our clients, so in the end, we decided to have our vintage-inspired photo booths fabricated to our specifications. We intended to have the photo booth as a fun side business, but things escalated quickly, forcing me into an early retirement from the DJ business to focus soley on all things "photo booth". Now we have four photo booths in our collection. Three of them are the digital photo booths that have made us so popular. The fourth is actually an antique chemical photo booth from 1959 that spent much of it's life at Sylvan Beach Amusement Park in upstate New York. As a company, Carolyn and I felt it was important to pay homage to the history of the photo booth, which dates back to 1925, so the old booth has been a welcome addition to our office at Wayside Village.

AC: What can be some of the benefits of having a photo booth, along with a photographer at your event?

SC: First and foremost, the photo booth is not a replacement for a professional photographer. A photographer is SO important as he or she captures the magic of the event from beginning to end. The photo booth should be considered a replacement to the traditional "party favor". People often choose to exclude putting disposable cameras each table in lieu of the booth. Guests are welcome to take photos over and over again - there is no limit, so in the end they get to take home tons of photos imprinted with the bride & groom's logo and wedding date. We also create a scrapbook on site the clients often use as their only guest book. Imagine how awesome it will be in twenty years when a couple pulls out the scrapbook and sees all of their guests exactly the way they looked on their wedding day. The scrapbook is so much more valuable than a book of signatures and ends up being quite the prized possession.

AC: Would you say there has been an increase in demand for photo booths for recently?

SC: Absolutely. We certainly feel that they are becoming a staple item at weddings. It's still such a "new" thing. The photo booths receive constant praise from guests as "the best idea EVER". We hear it at every single event. We have to admit that it wasn't our idea, but we are doing our best to perfect it.

AC: What advice do you have for a bride and groom when they're looking for a way to make their event unique?

SC: Well, a photo booth is definitely a unique addition, but there are so many great design elements available for weddings now. Hampton Roads has some of the very best vendors you'll find anywhere. From uplighting the walls and pin spotting the tables to elaborate ice bars and swanky lounge furniture. The sky really is the limit these days. If a client can dream it, the vendors in our area can pull together and make it happen. We see it every weekend. "Don't be afraid to be different". That's our advice. It's 2011, and it's cool to throw tradition to the wind and have FUN!

Monday Meeting: Trivium Studio

Monday Meeting with James Christianson and Trey Tesoro of Trivium Studio.

Trivium Studio gets it's name, Trivium, from the point where three paths cross. At Trivium Studio it is the intersection of the visions of James, Trey, and their clients. Trivium Studio is relatively new, although its photographers are not novices. James Christianson and Trey Tesoro both had their own photography "brands" before deciding about 18 months ago to merge and create Trivium Studio. James and Trey's style complement each other so well and they truly are a breath of fresh air in the wedding market.

AC: How did you get your start in photography?
TS: I (James) took photography in high school, and really enjoyed it. I continued photography throughout the years sporadically and when I meant Trey we both loved photography and our passion grew into our business. We had our own independent brands but we always shot together; however, about 18 months ago Trey and I decided to merge our brands together as one.

AC: What's your favorite moment to capture at a wedding?
TS: There are too many to list. Trey really loves to capture when the groom first sees the bride, while I love capturing the first dance in addition to any one on one moments between the bride and groom. Especially the moment before the bride walks down the aisle- her anticipation! There really are too many to list!

AC: How would you classify your style?
TS: I'd have to say a fusion of all styles. We pride ourselves on capturing real moments as they are happening. Of course we'll take the traditional style pictures, but what we love and are known for is our ability to capture emotion in the moment in a timeless manner.

AC: What advice do you have for a bride and groom looking for the right photographer?
TS: Choose someone that you truly have a connection with. You want to love their style but you want to feel comfortable with them through the process and on the big day. You have to remember to choose what you like, not what others around you like because they are your wedding pictures. Take engagement pictures with your photographer--that way if you don't like them or if you don't fit their style you aren't stuck with them on your wedding day. All you have after the wedding are the images, so make sure you are going to love them without settling.

Real Wedding: Michelle and Josh, Virginia Beach

A few weeks ago we had the privilege of assisting in the wedding of Michelle and Josh. We love when families are involved in all aspects of a wedding, and in this case Michelle was walked down the aisle by her son and the couple was married by Josh's father. The wedding took place at The Lighthouse on the Cove in Virginia Beach and began with an outdoor ceremony. RSVP Stationery created custom wedding day stationery and beautiful pink flowers were provided by Char's Floral Design. DJ Taylor Haycox kept the guests on their feet until late in the evening and Andi Grant Photography was there to capture all of the great moments. A family friend of the bride created her delicious cake and everything went off without a hitch.

As always, we love to share our favorite moments from the wedding and planning process with you: I actually went to High School with Michelle, so it is always my favorite memory, when I can help old friends on one of the most important days of their lives and this wedding was no different. Michelle, it was an honor to help you throughout the process and I look forward to sharing in more of life's journey with you.

It was our first time with a "wine and love letter ceremony" during the wedding...and we loved it. This was super romantic and sweet. Here is the gist, the bride and groom write love letters to each other and seal them in a box during the ceremony along with a bottle of wine...then on a later wedding anniversary (maybe on your 20th anniversary) you open up the box and read the reasons that you fall in love all those years ago while enjoying a good bottle of wine. It's super sweet!

Media: Virginia Beach Engagement Session featured on bridal blog

Let me first start off by saying that my husband and his partners are amazingly talented at what they do...and I am truly inspired and impressed by Trivium Studio each and every time I work with them. The comments and feedback that they receive from local and national vendors/clients/media/blogs,etc. always inspire me and make me proud of their hard work and dedication. With that said...These pictures will not let you down!

A few months back we had the opportunity to create a fun engagement session for our clients Tori and Ryan. I had the idea for this session quite some time ago, but I had to find the perfect couple that was willing and able to let us kind of take over their session and trust in our design vision. Tori and Ryan were absolutely perfect and I think Tori fell in love with the idea as much as I had. Tori is a bit of a DIY bride and the idea of crafting for her really helped spark my imagination. The theme we picked was "you are every minute of my ever day..." it's a sign that I've had on my design studio desk for quite some time now and I thought it would be a fun one to design a shoot around. The first thing that popped into my head was vintage watches/clocks and hour glasses etc...so that is the first thing we incorporated. To play on the "time theme" we also created custom flags that integrated the important dates in their relationship...while I couldn't include every "moment" into the shoot, I picked the most pertinent details to their engagement story. I really love how this shoot turned out...and I am more than honored to say that the very well known wedding blog Wedding Chicks thought this engagement session was the perfect fit for their website. I really want to thank Lawson Hall for letting us use their incredible venue as the background of our shoot. Ashley and John: Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center Wedding

For the last few months the ACE Team has had the extreme honor of working with John and Ashley on their "Stateside Wedding" at the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center in Norfolk. Their first marriage ceremony was in Mexico in March surrounded by about 35 of their closest friends and family...and then just last week they surprised their guests who thought they were just attending a celebration reception in honor of their wedding in Mexico with a vow renewal ceremony. We really enjoyed planning with Ashley, she has a great vision and the wedding turned out beautiful and unique to their love story.

We had the pleasure of working with some great vendors for this beautiful event! Daevid Reed worked with us closely on all of the personal details, flower and lounge design. Blue Steel Lighting Design hit a home run with their lighting design and also creation of draping you see on the fun lounge. Cuisine and Company did a phenomenal job on their "themed stations". Patti Cakes, Inc. designed a fabulous cake that not only looked amazing but also tasted amazing. (do you notice the fish swimming around as the 3rd tier?). Virginia Ice Art created Ashley and Johns jumping dolphin ice luge that was 6 feet (yes 6) tall. The Boardwalk Photobooth Company was a HIT for the evening. Their booth was packed all night! We had the pleasure of working with Kat Whitworth for the first time and we loved the sneak peak of the images she took...we look forward to sharing some of those soon. And finally...our friend Jeremy Mitchell of Jeremy Mitchell Cinema shot this fun trailer for us... We hope you loved it as much as we do!

Christine and Vinny: A Chrysler Museum Wedding

In March I posted the fabulous engagement images of Vinny and Christine in and around downtown Norfolk. I loved the wedding images below and was honored to be a part of their big day at the Chrysler Museum of Art last month. Their wedding was a blast to say the least...and the ACE Team encountered quite a few "firsts" on their wedding day. But before we get to those fun stories...let me tell you a bit about their vendors.

The bride's gown was from the always amazing Pure English Bridal, her makeup was done by Kim Wadsworth and her hair was styled by Carly at Salon Oh!. Her magnificent bouquet was created by Daevid at Daevids of Norfolk as were all of her wedding flowers. To say that her flowers were perfect would possibly be an understatement...when Christine saw her bouquet she kept saying "I'm obsessed with this" and it surely was beautiful! Cuisine and Company hit a home run with their food (as always) and their timeless cake was made by Incredible Edibles. Event Lighting was designed by the always fun Blue Steel Pro lighting and their DJ was a friend from New York (VJ Entertainment) that definitely knew how to party.

After each wedding I always try and post my favorite memory from the day so today is not different: For this event I have a few. 1. Vinny has 5 brothers and they were all HILARIOUS! Like, seriously hilarious. I was in stitches all night! 2. Christine was breathtaking as she walked down the back steps of the Chrysler to greet her groom. At Every wedding I have the opportunity to help place my brides' gowns so their trains are perfect as they walked down the aisle, and I always grab a sneak of the groom before she begins her decent down the aisle. Vinny looked so dapper in his bow tie (I wish more grooms stuck with this traditional detail) and they were both obviously in love! 3. Vinny might have been crowd surfing during the reception...this was first for us, but from a hysterical new yorker with 5 brothers, I wouldn't have expected anything different.

A Tribute to Long Sleeve Gowns

Last year I wrote a post on things we loved about "cold weather attire" for weddings and sleeves of course were one of the main items. I have always loved the classic look of a gown with sleeves and was not surprised at all when Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, chose the beautiful look for her wedding day.

Here is an image of one of our well known ACE Brides, Audrey, in her own lace gown. These sleeves were actually a bolero jacket that could be removed after the ceremony. Audrey looked classic and stunning on her day.

A few weeks back we had the honor of having one of our weddings featured on the website of the World Famous Glamour Magazine. We previously shared the link to the article through our social media sites, but today I wanted to share some of the pictures that were featured, a few that weren't and of course give you a run down of the vendors of this amazing wedding.

First, the back story. Rachel (the bride) has actually been an integral part of the ACE Team for 2 years now. She is as beautiful on the inside as she obviously is on the outside and her groom Nick isn't too shabby himself! They chose the Eastern Shore of Virginia and a quaint Marina called "Bay Creek" as the back drop of their beautiful outdoor ceremony. Bay Creek is such a great venue as it's roughly 30 miles from Virginia Beach but makes you feel as though you are hours (and many miles) away.

Early on in the planning process I randomly found an image that I thought encompassed the overall aesthetic that Rachel was looking for...thankfully I was spot on and we began the search for the perfect vendors to make her dream day possible. Early on Daevid came on board and loved her vision. We were able to incorporate some very rustic pieces in her event design in a pretty modern venue. Rachel loved the mix of old and new and it turned out fabulous.

David Schwartz seemed like a sure fit for her photography needs...and I knew from their engagement session that this was going to be a great match! Rachel and Nick are obviously a stunning couple...but of course, the proof is in the pictures.

Working in the event world for quite some time now Rachel knew that Rodney, owner of Arch Entertainment, was just the man to keep the dance floor packed all night...and trust me when I say, no one was sitting! A steel drum band played during the ceremony as the bridal party walked down the aisle...and through cocktails and then Rodney took over for the remainder of the evening.

I can't let you look at the pictures without mentioning 2 more things. First, all of the event paper products were from RSVP Stationery in Virginia Beach and that FABULOUS dress was from our dear friend Maya of Maya Couture! I hear more great feedback on Rachel's dress and fun bolero than anything else!

This fabulous bouquet even included beer hops...

One of the best little details of the entire wedding was how well the bridesmaid dresses played off of Rachel's beautiful Gown. Notice the rosettes on both the bride and bridesmaids dresses.

If you look closely you can see that these flowers are actually "growing" out of Birch Branches that are down the center of all of the guest tables.

I love the broach...and I believe it was Nick's grandmothers.

Not only did guests get these simple wedding programs, they also received "vow cards" that included the handwritten wedding vows from Nick and Rachel. A great way for your guests to follow along, but also keep a little part of the ceremony after the big day.

Daevid had the idea to add the pop of persimmon to the chair cushions...and it was a great unexpected color in the design of the room.

One of my favorite images from every wedding is the bride and groom walking down the aisle for the first time as husband and wife...and this wedding was no different!

I love their laugh. So obviously in love!

Chrysler Wedding Party: 2nd Annual

For the last 2 years the Chrysler Museum of Art has hosted a "Wedding Party" for potential brides in Hampton Roads. We love this event as it only features preferred wedding vendors to the Chrysler Museum of Art, it is open to the Public, and it gives brides and potential clients the opportunity to see the Chrysler set up with some of the amazing vendors that make magic weekend after weekend at this fabulous castle like venue.

Instead of a traditional booth this year we decided to set up a "mock table" that would let brides envision where their wedding guests would be sitting as they ate dinner. Obviously, I chose yellow (it's a favorite of mine if you can't tell)...but then I choose a happy spring like linen to warm us up a bit from that brisk March wind. Daevid created our beautiful flowers! I loved that he included daffodil's as they are a sure sign of spring and he also let us use one of his amazing chandeliers (which, If I don't say so myself, was one of the "WOW" pieces of the night). RSVP Stationery created our "in lieu" of cards, tables number and place cards and Blue Steel Pro Lighting lit our booth.

WOW! the ACE Family is growing! No, No...not me but many of our former clients, now dear friends (or dear friends that became clients). I have received so many phone calls, texts and emails in the last few months about so many new babies that I wanted to share the news with all of you!

It's been a while since we shared any engagements with our readers...but today that will change! Our clients Vinny, a New Yorker and Christine a Virginia Beach Native have great style and class. We were so excited when we received these great pictures in our inbox we had to share right away. Vinny and Christine will be getting marred in 2 short weeks at the Chrysler Museum of Art. We just had our final meeting and I laughed the entire time. Vinny is so very funny and it's my understanding that his 5 brothers (yes 5!!) are the same way. This wedding is sure to be a HOOT! A few weeks ago we announced my moms wedding...and each week we have been sharing a few little details about her big day. Today, we are sharing dress inspiration. I can tell you who her designer is and even share a few images of the vibe we are going for...but definitely no pictures of the real dress!

My mom has literally put all of the planning into my hands. Including the dress...but here are the details that I was looking for when picking the perfect dress for my mom:

Now...Drum Roll: I chose an Alisa Benay gown for my mom. I loved it for a few reasons...First, Alisa is amazing and I have loved her work for a long time (you can see another post we wrote on her last year here). Next, she let us customize my moms dress 100%. Finally, she isn't a designer that a lot of our local clients use as she is more of a boutique designer from Colorado. I loved that my Mom wouldn't have the same dress that everyone else has.

Marion and Matthew: Alexandria Wedding

In October I had the pleasure of planning and coordinating a wedding in Alexandria at the George Washington Masonic Temple for my dear friends Marion and Matt. I was honored when they called me and asked for planning help. I have been in the wedding world for a long time now but I never want to step on toes or assume friends want my help...So of course, I was stoked to travel to their wedding and help in anyway possible. Marion and I randomly found the G.W.Masonic Temple while researching venues online and instantly fell in love! I believe her mom actually booked it without any of us seeing it. It was beautiful!

There are always a few set backs when we travel out of the area...and one main one is choosing vendors that will take care of our clients without ever having worked with them before. DC isn't hard as we work up there a few times every year...but this time, we were looking for a great lighting design company in the Alexandria area and couldn't really find one that fit Marion and Matt's style...so of course we went to our old backup (and fabulous company) Blue Steel Pro Lighting and brought them with us.

We also had the pleasure of working with Bialek's Music, Petals Edge Floral, Sinplicity Catering and Alexandria Cupcakes. These Beautiful images are from a the great Julie Ann Woodford (old pal and pro photog of Marion).

Matt and his Groomsmen...a group of hilarious men...and a few are great friends of ours as well!

Marion's wedding colors were Navy and Gold with a historic vibe to the entire wedding. I love the way that the bouquets above really popped off of her classic colors. Look at the flowers on the dresses below. we LOVED THIS!

The one thing that Marion and Matt didn't love about their venue was all of the red in their ceremony room. But to be honest, this is one of the things I loved. The ceremony room at the GW Masonic Temple had such a vintage vibe to it when we added the simple ceremony lights on the stage.

One of my favorite shots from every wedding is right after the Bride and Groom are pronounced

husband and wife.

Marion has great classic taste. These Calla Lily arrangements were so simple, yet made such a statement.

All of our guests found their tables with their names attached to these cute Mt. Vernon Bells. You might remember we featured their engagement session at this historic venue.

For each wedding we post I try and include our favorite event memory....and the next series of images are truly my very favorite moment from any wedding for all of 2010. Marion and Matt had a private last dance...no one was in the room except the DJ, Photographer (and me hiding in the corner)...Their last song was a moment to reflect on the day, enjoy themselves for a few moments and just decompress. Most of our clients have a last dance song with all of their guests...but we had to do things a little different for them and I absolutely loved it. You can see the true joy and elation in these images. What do you think?

As some of you know, and many of you don't, my mom is getting married in a few short months. It has kind of been a whirlwind experience...grasping that she is finally tying the knot to a man we have grown to know and love and also planning in the midst of another blessed wedding season in the ACE Studio. It has been a bit overwhelming to say the least, but we are very excited.

We write a series on our blog entitled: Your Mom is not a Wedding Planner...and this morning, we received a response to these blogs from my mom (which was unexepected to say the least). Over the next few weeks I'll share some details about her big day... But I want to share them with you little by little...as she has no idea what's happening. (and I kind of like it that way).

As many of you know, my daughter Antonia Christianson is a wedding planner. Well she wrote this wonderful blog on your “Mother is Not a Wedding Planner” So as my upcoming wedding approaches, I thought I would write this answer to her blog.

If any of you know our family background, you would know that we all worked in the family business, which was supplying food and catering supplies to many of the finest restaurants up north. So it was not that far a jump for Antonia (Missy to us) to go into the wedding planning business, after all she grew up watching this all going on.

Well it is now my time to plan my upcoming wedding. First of all, it is not easy to let someone else take over the reins. But in my infinite wisdom, Mike and I chose Spring break this year to finally get married after 5 years. So what sounded like a perfectly good idea, started to run into some glitches. First of all I work 2 jobs and Mike is back in Canada. Second of all, I have to work until the day before the wedding without a day off. So with American Express card in hand my beautiful and very organized daughter has taken over.

First of all she contacted a well known Designer to make my dress. Next knowing that we wanted everything to be simple and family oriented, she rented us a beautiful house on the bay to spend the week. There is plenty of entertaining room for the whole family, (5 children, 5 significant others and 8 grandchildren). That is besides the extended that family we also consider important and spend every family function with. Next Missy and RSVP designed lovely personal one of a kind invitations. She ordered the cake while we were having lunch, booked the DJ, arranged the menus, and visited the venue.

So all in all, my daughter “The Wedding Planner” has got it all covered.

I cannot say how proud I am of her. Without her help and love Mike and I would be able to get married as soon and to be able to share this very special day with the whole family.

You're Engaged. How do I pick my vendors?

Congratulations! You are just engaged and have no idea where to start? Don't be scared, thats normal. 'Tis the season for engagements and for brides to start planning. This thought can drive many women insane...but just relax, think before you act and try to savor these months before your nuptials. Here are a few fool proof tips to help you pick the perfect vendors for your joyous day.

1. Do a bit of research...and if a vendor's price seems too good to be true. It probably is. Or the product is not "the same" for half of the price. In the wedding world, you pay for what you get. So if vendors A, B and C are $1000.00 ask yourself why vendor D is only $500.00. A few extra dollars in your wallet now can cost you in the long run.

Now, don't think you can't save money in certain places...but there are 2 things you absolutely don't want to skimp on. First, photography...all you have after your day is over are those amazing pictures. Second, food...Trust me, your guests will remember if your chicken was dry or if they left your event hungry. Ask vendors for recommendations...when you hear the same name over and over again, maybe it's a great vendor for you to chat with as well.

2. Slow response time when you are a new client inquiring about services means slow response time throughout the entire process. Be realistic with your expectations, if you call or email a vendor on Friday during peak wedding season, they might not call you back until Monday (which is ok). But, if you call on Monday and haven't heard back by the following Monday, i'd be leery about how their entire communication process will work. You deserve to be treated as a vendors only client, from day one.

3. Read Reviews...ask to talk to past clients...and if a vendor doesn't allow you to do that, then they aren't a vendor for you. Here is the thing: 1 bad review could mean that the vendor and client just didn't mesh, but if there are multiple bad client reviews, proceed cautiously. There are many great resources now out there for you to find out what other brides are saying about your "must have" vendors. Sites like WeddingWire and TheKnot offer the opportunity for past brides to comment on current vendors. Now...here is the warning. If you can not find a review anywhere, the vendor won't allow you to talk to previous clients and they are slow to respond: FIND A NEW VENDOR.

If you hear bad buzz about a vendor from other wedding vendors...listen. They are trying to make not only your day,but your planning process as stress free as possible...

Workout Wednesday: Make this your best year yet

We are almost 2 weeks into the New Year – I’m sure most of you have vowed to make this year your best year yet. I am here to help motivate, encourage and educate to ensure that stays true (at least in the fitness and nutrition aspect). Simply check the Workout Wednesday article each week - put the effort into applying what is said to your day, week, life, etc. Easier said than done, I know. BUT if you don’t try and/or put effort into living the healthiest life possible - then we all know what the outcome will be.

This week – I would like each of you to “try” at least one of my tips below – if not all of them. As I have said all along – adapting a healthy lifestyle is a baby-step process. It all starts with a small change. As long as you are putting one foot in front of the other in a healthy direction – you are doing great.

1. Right now – literally write down (actually seeing it on paper makes a huge difference) make a 7 day goal for you to achieve. It must be realistic and attainable. You also need to be specific. For example: If you have not worked out in months or years – then do not shoot to hit the gym for the next 7 days. Aim for 2 or 3. Also don’t just say 2 or 3 actually specify the days. Once you achieve this goal – set another goal for the next 7 days. This can be to maintain the 2 days of working out. Or it can be to continue working out 2-3 days but add 5 minutes to the treadmill.

2. Plan, plan, plan! Whether you do it the night before or first thing in the morning – plan what you are going to eat and when each day. Yes, “when” is important (see #3). Not only does this help keep you on track – it makes the rest of the day of deciding what you are going to eat – easy. The chances of deviating from your “plan” are less likely to happen when you are prepared.

3. If you are trying to eat more often throughout the day - set a timer. I know, I know – sounds silly but if you are used to going long periods of time between meals and/or waiting until you are hungry then eating every 3-4 hours will not come easy. When the timer goes off, chances are you will tell yourself “I’m not hungry”. You will want to slip into your usual habit of waiting until you are hungry. You are NOT supposed to feel hunger. When you wait to eat once you are starving you WILL overeat or make a bad food decision. Hunger is very powerful and will over-ride anything “good intention” you had. By eating every 3-4 hours – you will stay in control of what you truly intend on eating and chance are very slim that you will overeat. Until you get into the habit of eating every 3-4 hours – set an alarm/timer to keep you on track.

4. Tell yourself you will not eat past a certain time and/or no more food after dinner. Mindless eating occurs most frequently after dinner, when you finally sit down and relax. Snacking in front of the TV is one of the easiest ways to throw your diet off course.
The time of when you should stop eating really depends on your lifestyle. The goal would be to stop eating 2 hours before you go to bed.

5. Exercise in the morning – If heading home is winning over exercising after work, you might want to consider doing it before work. This way you know you have your workout over with and whatever comes up throughout the day will not get in the way of your workout regimen. This of course will be an adjustment but just like anything else – it will get easier. The key is not “thinking” when the alarm goes off in the morning because your bed will win. You have to head to the gym on auto-pilot. Getting there is the hard part – once your there you know you will be so thankful you did it and more importantly – it’s over for the day.

2010: A Year In Review

What a year 2010 was! I celebrated my 5^th wedding anniversary with my husband, countless memories with my boys (who by the way are growing like weeds) and we moved our studio to space that more accurately conveys our brand. We helped plan over 30 weddings, an amazing “Pink Martini Night” for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and even had time to throw in a surprise party for my hubby James. Not only has our business grown, but so has our staff. The 2 amazing event staffers and 1 intern that we started the year off with quickly grew to a staff of 6. We were growing so our staff needed to as well! We hit a few bumps in the road but I am so happy with the girls that help make our clients dreams come true every day. They are my team, my friends, and my saving grace in the middle of this chaotic world.

The ACE Team was honored to be featured in Bride & Bloom Magazine in the Spring along with client features in National Wedding Blogs such as Inspired By This, The Brides Café, Uniquely Unveiled (the Weddings Unveiled Blog), Sparkliatti and even Essence Bridal Bliss (the blog for Essence Magazine). We were honored to be nominated as a Wedding Wire Rated Wedding Planner in 2010 and are blessed to be chosen as “The Best Of the Knot” for 2011.

Life is good, business is better...my blessings are uncountable.

We feel so honored to have been published in two national wedding blogs last week, The Bride's Cafe and Essence Online Bridal Bliss! Dana and Nonye's 600 person wedding took place this past July. They said their vows at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Portsmouth and had a reception to follow at the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel. Eleise Theuer Photography was there to capture this special day. We had a great time working with this beautiful couple and wish them many years of bliss together. Rachel and Nick Are Getting Married!!

We are so happy to share with you all another great couple getting married, Rachel and Nick! The two of them met while attending law school in Florida, and after proposing to Rachel at Central Park in NYC, they are now ready for the next step in life. They are getting married at the Mariner's Museum in Newport News on June 4, 2011. It will be a "Southern Affair" featuring two of our all-time favorite colors: Yellow and Gray!! The images below were taking by Beau Womble, who we are very excited to be working with again!

Bling in the Season: a Vendor Holiday Party

As of next week Antonia Christianson Events will have officially been in business for 4 years. (and a blessed 4 years at that)...So we thought that this year, we'd celebrate our anniversary, our new studio and our holiday cheer with about 100 of our vendor friends! With the help of our good friend and neighbor Ramone we threw one bang up party!

First, I'll thank everyone that helped make this event AMAZING! Workout Wednesday: The Secret to Successful Resolutions

We are just week away from one of the most popular New Year's resolution most people make--> the plan to lose weight - start working out - eat healthier - etc. We all have the best of intentions when we set our resolutions but unfortunately most people don't keep their New Year's resolution. Research has shown that, after six months, fewer than half the people who make New Year's resolutions have stuck with them, and, after a year, that number declines to around ten percent. A New Year's resolution to lose weight and/or to adapt a healthier lifestyle (or any resolution you make) does NOT have to be doomed for failure.

The key to making a successful New Year’s resolution is a person’s confidence that they can make a behavior change and the commitment to making that change. The below are my solutions for successfully keeping your resolutions this year and ever year thereafter.

Choose an obtainable goal

You must be realistic when setting your personal fitness goals. Rather than concentrating on the end result, set several smaller goals. Take it one day at a time. Remember your fitness goal will not happen overnight. Take as many baby steps as you need and know as long as you are moving in the right direction, your personal fitness goals will be achieved.

If each New Year’s resolution’s is the same and each year you don’t succeed. Set a NEW resolution. Set yourself up to succeed not fail.

Don’t change everything all at once

Adapting a healthier lifestyle is all about changing habits. If you want to become more active AND eating healthier…pick one. Changing your lifestyle all at once is a recipe for disaster. You must realign your priorities. Initial attempts to succeed are limited until you change your habits and make the time for your new commitment. You must understand in order to see a change; you need to make a change.

Educate yourself

It is the utmost importance to know what you are doing before you start any kind of workout regiment or modifying your diet. You do not want to injure yourself, burn out or get discouraged. Unfortunately, media has saturated people’s minds on what to eat, what not to eat. Gain muscle this way….do this workout…do that workout. Your healthy lifestyle is all about you. Everyone’s lifestyle is different. Everybody’s body is different. One way of eating may work for your friend but not necessarily for you. Your co-workers workout regimen may be for his/her goals but not yours. In order to successfully adapt a healthy lifestyle, you must do what is enjoyable to you. You must eat foods that you enjoy. Find exercises that you enjoy. There is something out there for everyone. You just have to look for it. If you do anything that is not enjoyable, inconvenient, dreadful….you will not continue to do it. Ask questions that specifically pertain to your goals. To ensure you have the correct answers to your questions, turn to fitness professional or the Internet.

Do it for yourself

Your fitness goals should be based on what YOU want. Do not let distractions get in your way. Treat your workout time like you would a doctor’s appointment. Your health needs to remain a top priority – if you don’t have your health then all else will suffer.

Have a support system

Your support can come from work, home and/or at a fitness club. Without the proper support, these changes will become more challenging as time goes on. Find a friend/co-worker that wants the same “changes” or has the same goals as you. Surround yourself with like-mind people. You will not only motivate each other but hold each other accountable.

Stay Positive

Everyone falls off the wagon at some point. You will have a bad day of eating and/or miss a workout and when that happens, you should not be discouraged. Remind yourself you are human and “mistakes” will happen. The trick is not having that bad “meal” turn into a bad week/month of eating poorly or missing a workout to being missing weeks/months of workouts. Get back on track as soon as possible. Recognize why the “mistake” happened and learn from it so you can avoid the mistake again.

When I first introduced myself in August – I spoke about my background, my training styles and through the numerous Workout Wednesday blogs – my tips and advice. Now the time has come to fill you in on Lacey Lee Fitness Studio.

Lacey Lee Fitness is located in West Ghent - a wonderful neighborhood in Norfolk. What once used to be a warehouse that held documents for an architect firm – has now been spruced up with vibrant colors and décor to give off the right amount of energy and motivation one will want when working out. When the search began in finding a location for my personal training and fitness class studio – I had had 3 requirements. 1.Easy for people to get to 2. Free parking 3. Be in a safe area. Once I found my location (which is better than I could have imagined) every detail that followed was to ensure people’s workout experience was nothing but the best.

As I have mentioned before, working out is intimidating for most people – especially in a gym setting. Between the layout of my studio and the services I offer, my goal is put your anxieties at ease. It is very common to be nervous when entering a fitness class for the 1^st time or hiring a personal trainer. With me – I offer everyone a no-obligation free consultation or session. I will answer all of your questions, fill you in on what to expect and guide you to the correct class for your current fitness levels. One great thing about fitness classes - you are essentially doing group personal training. You don’t have to worry about motivating yourself or trying to remember what exercises to do – the instructor does it for you. Granted you will have to do the “hard” part by actually doing the exercises– but we take the guess work out for you. Over the years of working in the fitness industry – too many times I have seen people just “going through the motions” when they workout. Then they get frustrated and discouraged when they don’t see results and drop off the workout wagon. Most people don’t know how to push themselves without pushing too hard. So in turn- they tend to not work as hard as they should or worse hurt themselves.

I am a big picture thinker. Hence my logo - “It’s Not Just a Workout…It’s a Lifestyle”. The goal is to adapt a healthier lifestyle and to begin at whatever pace is comfortable for you. Working out twice a week for a half hour is certainly better than nothing. You know yourself best – don’t set yourself up for failure by saying you will hit the gym 5 days a week. Work your way up to that point. It is always easier to add a day then to take a day away. No point busting your butt for a month then stopping all together. You will only get back to why you began working out in the first place. As you have learned throughout the Workout Wednesday blogs – I push not only the educational aspect of a healthy lifestyle but having fun while doing it. After all – if you do anything you dread or inconvenient – you will stop. I don’t want that to happen and I know you don’t either.

I told you we'd get back into the proverbial swing of things once our event season slowed down a bit...so here it is, another great engagement session from our clients Virginia and Mark. I love sharing my clients with our readers for a few reasons; There is some amazing photography talent on the East Coast and my clients are beautiful, funny, witty and classic.

I'm Thankful: 2010

So, this marks my 200th post to the ever evolving Antonia Christianson Events Blog...and what a great day to post...Thanksgiving Day! Last year (and every year) I post on the many many items that I am grateful for. This year I will do the same...

First, I am obviously thankful for an amazing family. I am surrounded by the support and energy of my husband James and two beautiful babies...In the past I have been told that I am obsessed with them, but truthfully, I'm not sure what else you should be obsessed with than the few things in this world that make you tick, and make your life worth living. I am not only thankful that I have such support around me, but eternally grateful and blessed to have the things I do at such a young age.

I am thankful for the most hilarious children in the world...to know them is to know laughter, uncontrollable laughter.

I am thankful for a beautiful new studio, a mom that has been the best mom and dad a gal could ask for, in-laws that actually rock, the most accomplished group of friends, adorable nieces and nephews, ...and of course a faith that is always steadfast.

I am thankful for colleagues in the wedding world that help me grow both professionally and personally...colleagues that I can truly call my friends.

I am thankful for hilarious, trusting, and ever appreciative clients that let me into one of the most beautiful, trying and loving days of their life.

I am thankful for my M's...my best friends Molly and Melanie who have helped our little circle grow this year with the birth of baby Trent nearly 3 months ago to Molly and the upcoming birth of baby Josh in the coming weeks. (last thanksgiving we were grateful for the marriage of his mommy and daddy).

I am thankful for the most supportive, real staff that I could ask for. I am not only thankful that they bring me down to earth, but that their brutal honesty has formed me to the person I am today. I am thankful that they ground me, support me, love me and humor me (even when they think i'm a nut). I'm thankful that they come back to work week after week, year after year because they are as in love with our clients as I am.

Workout Wednesday: Thanksgiving Tips and Recipes

The Antonia Christianson Events staff is thankful for our friend Lacey Lee! She is a blessing to the fitness community, the bridal community and our friendship community. Below are some great (and realistic) tips to keeping healthy this Thanksgiving (and all holiday season, really)...along with some amazing recipes. I know i'll be using some of these tomorrow!

Realizing how difficult the Holiday’s can be for most people watching their waist lines – I felt a follow up to the “How to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain” blog was in order.

*Go for lean, white meat turkey to get the most bang for your calorie-buck. Dark meat has about 15% more calories and 30 - 40% more fat than light meat. And ditch the skin while you're at it (that's where most of the fat hangs out!).

* Choose foods that leave evidence: Keep those shrimp tails and chicken wing bones on your plate when you’re done. Studies show that if you see how much you've already had, you’ll eat less.

* Go slow. If you wolf down your food, your plate may be clean while others are still eating. That invites seconds. Take a sip of water every bite or two to slow yourself down.

* Use a small plate. The tinier the dish, the less food you'll take and the less you’ll eat.

* When you're in a restaurant, ask the server not to put bread on the table. Leave more room for your other favorite holiday foods instead.

* Substitute cranberry sauce, loaded with antioxidants, for fatty, high-calorie gravy.

* On potatoes and yams, avoid butter, cheese, bacon and sour cream. If possible, substitute low-fat yogurt or nonfat sour cream.

* Watch the alcohol, which has almost 200 calories per ounce and slows down metabolism. And too much alcohol impairs judgment, so the more you drink, the more you're likely to eat.

* Wear your favorite form-fitting clothes and you'll be way less likely to overeat. No stretchy pants!!!

GRILLED HERBED TURKEY BREAST

You'll need a large indoor grill for this recipe.

Ingredients:

2.5 to 2.75-pound turkey breast (if bone is included)

1/4 cup fresh parsley leaves

3 tablespoons chopped fresh sage leaves

1.5 tablespoons fresh chopped rosemary leaves

5 teaspoons minced garlic

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Directions:

1. Remove skin from turkey breast and discard. Cut the turkey breast away from the bone into two equal-sized fillets.

2. Start preheating your indoor grill on high. Meanwhile, combine herb rub ingredients -- parsley, sage, rosemary, garlic, and olive oil -- in a processor bowl by pulsing for about 10 seconds.

3. Use your hand or a spatula to spread the herb rub on both sides of each fillet. When grill is ready, arrange turkey fillets on grill so that the grill top rests evenly on both pieces of turkey. Cook about 14 minutes (if fillet is 2 inches thick). Test the thickest part of the turkey fillet to make sure turkey is cooked throughout. You should be collecting some drippings in the tray of your grill (you can use this and scrapings from the top and bottom grill plates to make a gravy)

4. Remove turkey fillets to a serving platter and let them rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Yield: 6 servings

Per serving:

Calories: 215, Protein: 39 grams, Carbs: 0.3 grams, Fat: 5.5 grams, Fiber: 0.1 gram, Sodium: 63 mg

STUFF-LESS STUFFING

Thanksgiving wouldn't be the same without stuffing. But, as you know, butter-soaked bread cubes (aka stuffing) aren't exactly low in calories. And nobody should be stuffing-less on Turkey Day.

Ingredients:

6 slices Wonder Light Bread, any variety (or another light bread)**

1 cup chopped onion

1 cup chopped celery

1 cup chopped mushrooms

1 cup fat-free broth, chicken or vegetable; room temperature

1/4 cup Egg Beaters, Original

1 tbsp. LAND O LAKES Whipped Light Butter

2 cloves garlic; finely chopped

salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme

Directions:

For best results, leave bread uncovered for a night or two, until slightly stale. Otherwise, begin by lightly toasting bread. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut bread into 1/2-inch cubes. In a medium-sized pot, combine broth, celery and onion. Cook for 8 minutes at medium heat. Remove from heat and add mushrooms and garlic. Season mixture to taste with salt, pepper, rosemary and thyme. Spray a medium-sized baking dish with nonstick spray, and place bread cubes in it. Once veggie-broth mixture has cooled slightly, add Egg Beaters and butter. Pour mixture evenly on top of bread. Mix gently with a fork. Bread cubes should be moist, but not saturated. If necessary, add 1-2 tablespoons of water. Cover with foil and cook for 20 minutes. Remove foil and fluff/ rearrange stuffing. Return to oven (uncovered) for 10 - 15 minutes, or until top is golden brown. Serves 5.

Serving Size: 1 cup, Calories: 88, Fat: 1.5g, Sodium: 305mg, Carbs: 16g, Fiber: 4g, Sugars: 4g, Protein: 7g

LEAN BEAN CASSEROLE

Ingredients:
Two 16-oz. bags frozen French-style green beans, thawed, drained & thoroughly dried
Two 10.75-oz. cans Campbell's 98% Fat Free Cream of Celery Soup
One 8-oz. can sliced water chestnuts, drained
1 bag (about 1 oz.) Crispy Delites Red Onion Chips or 1 oz. (about 25 pieces) onion-flavored soy crisps, crushed

Directions:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Make sure green beans are thoroughly drained and completely dry -- use a towel if you need to. Then, place half of the green beans in a casserole dish (a 2 - 3 quart rectangular one works best).

Pour 1 can of soup evenly on top of the layer of green beans. Place half of the sliced water chestnuts over the soup layer.

Cover with remaining green beans, and then top with the rest of the soup. Evenly top with the remaining water chestnuts. Place dish in the oven, and cook for 45 minutes.

Top with crushed soy crisps, and return dish to the oven for another 10 minutes or so, until chips turn golden brown.

MAKES 10 SERVINGS

PER SERVING (1/10th of casserole): 76 calories, 2g fat, 431mg sodium, 13g carbs, 3.5g fiber, 4g sugars, 3g protein --

I CANNOT BELIEVE IT’S NOT SWEET POTATO PIE

By substituting butternut squash for sweet potatoes and using some key light ingredients, you can save over 200 calories and nearly 17 grams of fat per serving on this Turkey Day classic. And it tastes EXACTLY like the real thing (yes, EXACTLY)

Ingredients:

1 large butternut squash (large enough to yield 2 cups mashed flesh)

1/2 cup Egg Beaters; Original

1/3 cup light vanilla soymilk

1/3 cup sugar-free maple syrup

1 tsp. cinnamon

1/4 cup SPLENDA; Granular

1 tsp. vanilla extract

2/3 cup miniature marshmallows

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Peel squash and cut into large chunks (removing seeds). Fill a large, microwave-safe dish with a half an inch of water. Place squash into dish and cover with plastic wrap. Microwave for approximately 8 minutes (and drain). Squash should be tender enough to mash, but not fully cooked. With a potato masher, food processor or fork, mash squash. Measure out 2 generous cups, lightly packed, and place in an oven-safe baking dish. Add all ingredients except for marshmallows. Mix ingredients thoroughly, but do not over-stir; squash should still be pulpy. Allow to cook for 45 – 50 minutes. Remove from oven, and disperse marshmallows over top of pie. Return to oven for 5 minutes, until marshmallows begin to brown. Allow to cool. Serves 4.

Serving Size: 1/4 recipe; approx. 2/3 cup, Calories: 110, Fat: <0.5g, Sodium: 115mg, Carbs: 25g, Fiber: 1.5g, Sugars: 7.5g, Protein: 5g

Workout Wednesday: Holiday Weight Gain

The holidays are approaching and before you know it you have been to every holiday party under the sun, you have skipped your workouts and you feel more sluggish than ever. Somewhere in between Thanksgiving and Christmas some of you will say, “I’m going to start working out January 1st” or “My New Year’s resolution is to lose 10lbs.”

The next couple of months can be particularly challenging for those trying to watch and/or lose weight. Extra calories are lurking around every corner. All these extra calories add up, and if you are like most Americans, you will put on a pound or two by New Year’s Day. I know what you are saying, “So what's the harm in a little holiday weight gain, especially if it's just a pound”? According to researchers at the National Institutes of Health, most Americans never lose the weight they gain during the winter holidays. The pounds add up year after year, making holiday weight gain an important factor in adult obesity.

Get a jump start this year and begin using the tools I have provided below to avoid holiday weight gain.

FIVE TIPS TO AVOID HOLIDAY WEIGHT GAIN

#1. Stay Active: Keep your workouts on your schedule. Don’t let shopping for presents or holiday parties take the place of you burning those calories. On days that you really lack motivation or simply do not have time for your complete exercise routine, commit to do just 10 minutes of exercise. You'll probably end up doing more than that once you get started. Even if you only end up completing 10 minutes, that is still a lot better than zero minutes.

#2. Don’t Arrive Hungry: Have a nutritious snack or a meal before you head out to the holiday party. As I have said before – once you are hungry, you will make a bad food decision. Our stomach will over-ride

anything you “intended” on eating. If you work in an office setting be prepared for the deluge of guilty treats your co-workers and other business associates will graciously want to share. Stash your own healthy snacks in your desk so you won't be tempted to overindulge when your grumbling stomach demands a 3:00

snack time.

#3. Focus On Socializing: Remember one of the great things about the holidays is spending time with friends and family.

#4. Limit Alcohol: Avoid drinking too much alcohol at holiday parties. It's not just about calories but about control. If you drink a lot - you won't have as much control over what you eat.

#5 Limit 'Tastes' While Cooking: If you do a lot of cooking during the holidays - crack down on all those "tastes." People lose their appetites when they have been cooking because they have been eating the whole time. Instead of tasting mindlessly every few minutes, limit yourself to two small bites of each item pre- and post-seasoning. Just put the spoon in and taste a little bit- it is not grounds for a big scoop.

Marion and Matthew: A Mt. Vernon Engagement

I'd like to introduce you to friends of ours and clients Marion and Matthew. This weekend they will be getting married at the George Washington Masonic Temple in Alexandria...and since we are behind on posting to our blog I thought the next great post would be a few images of the happy couple to kick off their wedding weekend.

We have had the honor of working with Marion and Matt for the last year and are looking forward to their history themed wedding. Marion loves history and Mt. Vernon so what better place to take their engagement pictures than at that exact spot.

We always love the opportunity to travel to clients weddings...and it makes it even easier when we are surrounded by mutual friends as well. Marion has a great vision for their wedding and we can't wait to share pictures with you after the big day.

Matt, Thanks for always making me laugh! I'm honored that you chose the ACE team as part of your wedding family.

Their engagement story: The charm in the above image says "Will You Marry Me" on one side and "12-25-2009" on the other. On Christmas Day Matt drove up from Norfolk to Alexandria, where Marion's family lives to propose. He attached the charm to a red collar and put it on Marion's cat Sammy and when she picked up him she saw a plastic diamond ring and the charm.

Jen & Drew: A Lesner Inn Wedding

Jena and Drew couldn’t have had a more perfect day for their wedding. They were married on September 4, 2010 and the weather was perfect for their outdoor ceremony. Their ceremony took place on the upper deck of the Lesner Inn overlooking the water. The sun was shining and there was a beautiful breeze! Jena wore a beautiful ivory lace cap-sleeve gown and her bridesmaids accompanied her in cornflower blue cocktail length dresses that looked great with the given scenery.

After the ceremony the guests remained on the deck for cocktail hour while the bridal party made a quick trip to the nearby beach for some beautiful pictures with Heather Hughes Photography (who was amazing by the way!). Since the wedding ceremony ended right before sunset, the pictures taken at the beach were simply breathtaking as the sun set in the background.

When the bridal party came back from pictures the reception began in Lesner Hall, the upstairs event space of the Lesner Inn. Everything was decorated in blue and orange; from the tables and the flowers to the candy bar. If I could describe their reception in one word it would be Fun, with a capital F. It hardly felt like we were working at all, we had such a great time. Snackbar Jones was the band for the evening...Frank and the guys totally rocked it! There were people on the dance floor all night long; they barely even took a break to eat.

When it was time for their departure there was a tricycle waiting for them all decorated and ready to go. The groomsmen had snuck out of the reception to decorate the trike for them in the traditional “Just Married” style. The bike even had a little seat for Jena on the back, too cute!

I had 2 favorite memories from the night: First, was the groom’s cake. Both the wedding cake and the groom’s cake were done by Patti Cakes Inc. The groom’s cake was a cooler full of beer sitting on a beach. Everyone was amazed at how real it looked and how great it tasted. I also loved that from the moment all of the guests walked in to the reception to the moment it was time to go the dance floor was packed! It was a true celebration.

Don't you love how Jena and Drew both looked so happy in every image!

This rustic bamboo structure was the perfect backdrop for their laid back wedding...Thanks to Debbie Pence and the Fluttering Flowers crew for this detail and all of the floral design.

Drews Brother (and best man) was hilarious! As was his mom!

Rachel and Nick: A Trailer of The Big Day (Wedding in Cape Charles, VA)

As many of you know my beautiful assistant Rachel got married a few weeks back in Cape Charles, VA. We love this little town for many reasons...but most of all because Bay Creek Resort offers you the opportunity to feel like you are far away for a destination wedding with only being 40 minutes away. Rachel definitely did a great job with making all of her guests feel like they were on a nice little vacation while attending her wedding. She made sure to include all of the amazing sites in town...and the "local faves" in her weekend festivities.

Rachel and Nick had such a clear vision for their big day that we were honored to help them fulfill their wedding dreams. With all of Rachel's wedding experience working as an integral part of the ACE Team she knows how much I love all of the "little details", and as you'll see in the video she didn't miss a beat. Early on in the planning process we decided on a very rustic theme with the mix of modern that her wedding venue had to offer...we went in to Daevid Reed of Daevid's Floral with an idea in mind and he definitely WOW'ed us with the final creation. All of her event stationery was created by the always amazing RSVP Stationery...and her fabulous dress and bolero jacket (along with Nick's Suit) was from Maya Couture.

We have so much more to tell you about her wedding...but for now here is a trailer of their wedding weekend from Rachel's Uncle Tim Hicklin...owner of Storybook Weddings in Lakeland Florida. It was such an honor to work with Tim...we really enjoyed having such an experienced videographer with us for the weekend.
